The 3-game series against Minnesota was not the kind of thing I wanted to see coming out of the all-star break. Pitching was a strength in the series, but the Rangers still haven’t rediscovered their swing as a whole. Josh Hamilton looks good after returning from surgery and thanks to Ian Kinsler, the Rangers were able to avoid a sweep . . . Somehow I remain optimistic about the rest of the year – for now.
• Texas (now three games back) welcomes AL-best Boston to Arlington tonight for the opener of a 3-game set. Meanwhile, division leader Anaheim hits the road for a 3-game series against a bad Kansas City squad and Seattle (1 game behind Texas) opens a 3-gamer tonight in Detroit. Standings.

• Love or hate him, many people will be watching the premiere of “The T.O. Show” tonight on VH1 at 9 p.m. As for me, I’ve got the DVR ready to go.
